This is why we mostly hang the signs, not mount them as free standing with only a few large bolts on top of the span.

No, that’s not quite how it works. I would trust the roof structure on ANY size newer vehicle over something much older, ver sus just comparing the size of the vehicle.

Although one could also argue that vehicle roof structures are built to handle a rollover which takes into account the weight of the vehicle itself and not something falling on it. In that case, between a large and small vehicle built around the same time, the larger vehicle should be able to handle something heavier falling on it.
